Dr Joanna Grave

Consultant Clinical Psychologist
joanna-grave
All my psychology education and training, an Honours, a Masters and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, have been at The University of Birmingham. I went on to work in the NHS in Community Camhs in Solihull, and Birmingham and I then spent many happy years in Adolescent In-Patient Camhs as part of Birmingham Women’s and Childrens’ Hospital NHS Trust.

In my long NHS career I was fortunate to achieve senior positions of managerial, operational and strategic responsibility but my heart has always been firmly focussed on direct clinical work with young people and their families. Since retiring from the NHS, I have joined the team at Conatus and can focus on and develop my clinical and therapeutic roots.

My clinical psychology training gives me a strong foundation in theory and evidence. My doctoral research and clinical experience has led me to combine this with a focus on the stories young people’s bring of struggle and trauma. Together we create new, healthier and happier stories.
I have post graduate training in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy and Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy, which is a pretty eclectic mix of perspectives and reflects my curiosity and desire to take account of all aspects of development and functioning in my therapeutic approach.

I am a chartered member of the British Psychological Society, HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist and a member of the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
