Alastair Barnett

I am the Clinical Director of Conatus and a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. I have specialised in clinical child psychology for over 25 years, working in a number of Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services in England. Since 1999 and prior to establishing Conatus Health in 2010, I headed the Child Clinical Psychology Services in Redditch & Bromsgrove, Worcestershire

In leading the Conatus clinical practice, I aim to offer services to young people, parents and the professionals involved with them that are high in quality and provided by clinicians who are both experienced and also sensitive to the difficulties being described.

I undertake many clinical assessments of children & young people particularly when there are concerns that neuro-developmental or trauma issues may have been missed or misunderstood. These assessments are used to inform placement decisions & specialist therapy recommendations.

I have a long-standing interest in working with children and young people who have experienced trauma and am an accredited Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) practitioner, a clinical approach developed particularly for attachment/relationship trauma difficulties.

I particularly enjoy working with schools providing staff and pupils with targeted psychology support both educationally and clinically, helping children achieve their potential is a great feeling.

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Birmingham in 2017, focussing on the mental health of adolescents and undertaking a research study examining the psychological functioning of adolescents who have been adopted.
