Conatus Psychology Autism Services

Conatus offers an assessment service that is compliant with NIHCE guidance regarding the Assessment of Children and Young People with suspected social and communication disorders, and with National Autism Plan. By and large, referral enquiries are made directly to Conatus by families, although previously we have undertaken waiting list work on behalf of NHS services, with excellent feedback regarding user experience and assessment quality and depth.

Our staff are experienced in supporting children and young people who have been identified/diagnosed with an ASD, both supporting parents/carers and schools. This may be direct support although more often this support is delivered to parents/carers or to support and teaching staff; our approach is to support and develop the ASD-friendly skills and knowledge of those people who are involved in the child’s daily life and relationships. Experience has shown clearly that this greatly helps to consolidate acquisition of new learning and skills, with the changes more likely to be longer-lasting than individual therapy/support alone.

Previous support interventions to children with ASD and their families have included input including:

  • Social narratives
  • Emotional education and management
  • ASD-adapted Cognitive behavioural interventions
  • Parent/carer support and advice
  • ASD at puberty/adolescence
  • Handling ‘Meltdowns and difficult moments’
