What kind of difficulties can we help you with?
Our Clinical Child Psychologists work with the full range of emotional, behavioural and relationship difficulties encountered by young people and their families. These tend to relate to one or more of the following aspects:-Behavioural Health – When a child or young person is often opposing parental requests or authority, perhaps responding aggressively or with an ‘attitude’. Sometimes property is damaged or the child takes property from others; parents feel their child is getting “out of control”.
- Behaviour issues and parenting help
- Anxiety ; panic attacks; phobias including school phobia
- Stress management
- Emotional difficulties including anger and low mood
- Obsessions and compulsions
- Psychosomatic issues, stress related pain, such as stomach and headaches
- Post-traumatic stress reactions
- Bereavement and loss
- Transitions such as new school, family change, adolescence
- Self-regulation problems such as difficulties with sleeping and eating
- Toileting issues, wetting and soiling
- Addictions including substance misuse
- Social and communication difficulties including autistic spectrum disorder(ASD)
Family Processes - Families at times have difficulties getting on, particularly at times of change and stress. Parents can seek advice from someone outside their situation as to how they, as parents could help their child cope with the change and guidance in behaviour management.
- Post-adoption (attachment difficulties, experience of previous trauma, relationships)
- Sexuality issues
- Relationship Difficulties , family conflict/arguments, sibling
Refferals
We accept referrals from any adult with legal responsibility for the child or young person, health practitioners on behalf of the family concerned, and representatives of health insurance companies.Offering ethical practice at all times
We are happy to discuss your concerns and will offer what we consider the best treatment for the difficulties described. If we believe we are unable to help with your concerns, we will always tell you and, where possible, point you in the right direction to other services.
We review treatment plans at each appointment and only offer follow-up appointments when indicated clinically or requested by the family.
